It is in no way remote or isolated, the town is right across the street, and every facility you can imagine is available here. Just west of town is St. Francois, with his small local beach and minimal amenities. The winds here are steady and there is plenty of shallow water for kids to wade in. It’s also a great windsurfing beach.
Guadeloupe Sailing Vacation
La Désirade is the least developed and least visited island in the archipelago. Its 200 year history reaches back to its origins as a leprosy colony. La Désirade has a desert like terrain, with coconut vines and the sea lining the coast. The north side of the island has a rocky coastline with rugged open seas, but the south side is more inviting with white sandy beaches and coral-protected waters. The main village is Grande-Anse, which has a small church with flower gardens. Le Souffleur is a boat building community, and at Baie Mahault, you will see the ruins of an old leprosy colony. The best beaches are Souffleur, a calm oasis near the center of boat building, and Baie Mahault, a typical small Caribbean beach with white sand and palm trees.
Marie Galante is located about 22 nautical miles from Guadeloupe, this hotel is known for its unexplained beaches and beautiful bays. Explore the island on foot along the many hiking trails. There is also excellent scuba diving and snorkeling among the coral reefs.
Iles des Saintes is a cluster of eight islands, two main islands and six rocks. It’s off the beaten path. Terre-de-Haute is actually the main and the most attractive of all. The main settlement is Le Bourge, a road that follows the curve of the harbor. This is a charming and sleepy village. The quaint houses are decorated with gingerbread trim, colorful doors and balconies. The historic ruins of Fort Napoleon date back to the 17th century, when the “Battle of the Saints” navel encounter took place. The underwater world of Les Saintes has played host to famous divers such as Jacques Cousteau. The least qualified divers can experience the beauty of the multi-report coral reefs and captivating underwater caves. Pigeon Island is the home of the Jacques Cousteau marine sanctuary, and is a must see for divers.
